How does a power distribution box work

The distribution box is a very important component of the power system. It is responsible for transmitting electrical energy from the power station to various electrical equipment. In this article, we will explain in detail how it works.

In a box, a transformer usually has two windings: a high-voltage winding and a low-voltage winding. When high-voltage electrical energy is input to the high-voltage winding, the transformer produces a low-voltage output proportional to the input voltage.

3. Distribute electric energy: The reduced low-voltage electric energy needs to be distributed to various electrical equipment. Circuit breakers and contactors in the box perform this function. A circuit breaker is an electrical switch that automatically cuts off a circuit to prevent overloads and short circuits. A contactor is an electromagnetic switch that can control the on and off of a circuit. When a circuit breaker detects excessive current, it quickly cuts off the circuit to protect electrical equipment from damage. The contactor can open or close the circuit as needed to control electrical energy.

4. Protect electrical equipment: box also need to protect electrical equipment from abnormal conditions such as overload, short circuit, and ground fault. This is usually accomplished via a relay. A relay is an electrical switch that automatically switches a circuit under certain conditions. In electrical power distribution box, relays usually work together with circuit breakers and contactors to protect electrical equipment.

5. Monitoring and alarming: The box also needs to monitor the usage of electric energy and send out alarm signals when abnormalities occur. This is usually achieved through sensors and alarms installed inside the box. Sensors can detect parameters such as current, voltage, and temperature and transmit this information to the controller. The controller determines whether an abnormality occurs based on the preset threshold, and controls the alarm to emit a sound or light signal to remind the operator to perform inspection and maintenance.
